Spammers beware!
Sat, Feb 20 2010 by crazy2be
I am working to combat the spam issues on this website, it seems that the bots continue spamming a topic until the server doesn't output the comment form anymore, since the comments actually exhaust the server's memory. I'm working to create algoritms to identify likely spam posts and reject them.

Incedentally, everyone has been busy lately, so not much has gotten done on the highrisedev front. The spam issues continue to plauge the forum as well, and there we don't have as much control to take care or the problem automatically-- just try and figure out how to modify phpbb...
Preparing for Alpha 004
Sat, Dec 05 2009 by AlabamaCajun
I'm currently busy with some projects like work, fixing the house and harvesting pecans.
Soon I'll update the UI and go with some ideas we put on the forum about buttons and showing activities from tower. I will use OpenGL with some home brew classes that provide buttons and text boxes for the feedback IE People can't reach the Sky lobby on Level 15. This will incorporate a future enhancement to load from XML, JSON or homebrew files.

More to come.
Testing From links :)

The website *works* from all major browsers, and even the minor ones, like links. However, the experience is not always ideal. Comment here if you find anything broken in your browser.
Version 0.0.3 Alpha released
Sat, Nov 28 2009 by crazy2be
imageThis was actually released a little while ago, but the news system wasn't working properly, so it wasn't published. Improvements:
- Added call buttons on the elevator shafts, so you can see who is waiting to go where
- Elevator shafts are now semitransparent, so you can see the rooms below them.
- Numerous icons added to the UI, so it's not just text now.
- Money was introduced, you will now gain rent from offices and loose money when you construct rooms.
- Day of week and date added to the top bar
- Express elevator added
Full credits (again) to ac for this, he is truly a remarkable coder.
Testing the new login system

If you can read this, it worked! Although we still need a web dev, so that i can get to coding!
News system becomes more polished
Sat, Nov 28 2009 by test
Some nice AJAX has made the news system a little more polished and easier to use. Hopefully We will see lots of good news in the future!
Wiki up
Sun, Nov 22 2009 by crazy2be
We now have a (basic) wiki that you can access using the link on the top! Highrise is still living, and news has been sparse here simply because the news system isn't as polished or easy as i would like it to be. NetZero will eventually be taking over the website, hopefully he does a better job at it than i have.

I will be moving back to code eventually, although i missed a lot while working on the website, and it is going to take me a while to catch up. AC is thankfully still working on it, and is quite generous with his help.
No commits for 10 days...
Sun, Oct 25 2009 by crazy2be
Don't worry, there's just been some Internet drama going on in relations to our other project, and we've been dealing with that. Eventually, commits should continue. We have another developer who has expressed interest in the project, although they are on a excessively slow Internet connection in a different timezone, and may not be able to help for a while. We'll keep you posted!
Progress will continue
Mon, Oct 19 2009 by crazy2be
After spilling a large quantity of water on my laptop, i have not had time to work on this. After i catch up on the rest of my life, we should see commits continue. Also on the list is getting the webpage working on other browsers, right now comments only work in firefox.
Sky Lobby, condos, housekeeping added to the rooms.
Fri, Oct 09 2009 by alabamacajun
imageThe tower grows with the addition of Condos, Housekeeping and the nice spacious Sky Lobby.
Graphics from Alfinch and crazy2be update our fire stairs keeping the tower up to code.
News progresses, website becomes more dynamic
Fri, Oct 09 2009 by crazy2be
I've been doing some work on the website, trying to make things dynamic, functional through only the web interface, and looking at least mildly decent. I've added tag support, so you can now put [img]'s and 's in your post. Comments would be a nice feature.
A Short Movie Demonstrating HighRise Developer
Thu, Oct 08 2009 by crazy2be
click to watch the video! If you have eyes like the rest of us, you can't see anything on that tiny applet, so you might want to view the full one. Hopefully, we should have a more complete video up by the weekend.
Pre-Alpha released early to gain interest.
Wed, Oct 07 2009 by alabamacajun
After 6 weeks in development the first Pre-Alpha is being released. This release is only to get this project known and start getting feedback on the project. This pre-alpha is only a demo and only allows a few rooms to be placed into the tower. The time runs, day and night cycles with the change if background color. Offices have workers taking the elevators and going to work. In the evening they retire to the available apartments or leave to tower to a home elsewhere. Animations reflect activity in the offices and apartments, people ride the elevators and at night the people go to bed and close the curtains. At around 5:30AM they rise to restart the whole process. We still need one C++ developer and one or two graphic artists to finish the product. A lot has been done in a short time but it is ready to be programmed to the next level and make it a fully functional simulation game.
Commits are now up to date and work proceeds

Sourceforge has finally fixed the bug relating to commits not being posted to the news feed. Work continues.
Place and Place Assist now working
Mon, Oct 05 2009 by alabamacajun
imageYou can now place rooms, and a small "ghost" of the room is displayed when in place mode. The ghost turns red when you cannot place, and is green when you can.
Elevators Nearing Working Order!
Sun, Oct 04 2009 by crazy2be
imageElevators are almost working, you can see people waiting nearby and in the elevators. Full credit goes to AC for these accomplishments.
Source Forge Fail-Fail-Fail
Sun, Oct 04 2009 by AlamabaCajun
Sourceforge still hasn't fixed the commit bug. Rest assured we are still working on it! Sourceforge just isn't updating it in the news feed for some reason.
Hotels, Condos and other features now in the works
Sat, Oct 03 2009 by AlamabaCajun
We are getting more rooms, hotels, condos, and more. You can place rooms, although placement is often not quite where you would like it to be. More work should get an impressive demo going.
SourceForge bug!
Sat, Oct 03 2009 by AlamabaCajun
Sourceforge seems to have hung our commits. A ticket has been filed, and hopefully it should be resolved soon.
News is now up and running
Sat, Oct 03 2009 by crazy2be
The website now has a rudimentary news system in place, using SQL to store the data and php to display it. More features to come!
Alpha One moves closer to reality
Sat, Oct 03 2009 by AlabamaCajun
Highrise Developer advances. The first semblances of a playable game start to take shape. After weeks of work we start to see people move into apartments, going to work int the morning and returning in the evening. Placement is still a little unpredictable but most of the code is in place to handle placing rental space for offices and apartments. Elevator placement, expansion of floors, new floors and the lobby need to be added. Work on getting a cross platform file load and storage dialog has started. The decision remains between wxWidgets or making our own and feeding XML into ceGUI to give us controls. Once these items are in place we should reach a stage that allows us to build the first alpha. This will give the public their first view of the running app and a chance to give feedback. We are still in desperate need of one or more graphic artists. The work is currently 2D stills for the textures. The Team: rjfrank.nj - UI, event pipe, state engines and original design. crazy2be - sub systems, storage, XML
Technical Details!
The time clock was connected to the people to set them in motion. Time triggers the events that drive the peoples life activities. The offices have an employee limit and count of people working that governs if activity is seen in the office during work hours. The apartments have an occupant count that governs if people live there and if they are home. Animation will reflect occupation of the people home, away or vacant apartments. Elevators of driven by the paths of people going to work or returning home. XML file save and load is mostly done, we just need to add a few more properties for the offices and save the people. Work remains to get the schedules worked out so people get to worn on time, work long hours or go home on time. Animation sequences need to be completed to give the offices and apartments more natural flow. Graphics for the animations are still in demand as we are short skill artists to render the textures. Elevator routing and queues still need some touchup to indicate when people are waiting and move cars to all the call floors. Next on the list is to get the UI dialogs to let the user select a file, save and open games.
